The Bare Essentials of Alternative Health

By : Dr. Rose Windale

Alternative health has gained an expansive number of followers as this practice mainly involves the motivation of an individual’s own capability to make themselves feel better and to be well or to prevent themselves from becoming ill in the first place. A large percentage of alternative health practitioners have attested that indeed, the use of alternative health practices have positive results. Basically, alternative techniques do not involve the use of chemicals such as those included in conventional medications that undoubtedly have adverse, nay hazardous side effects. Practicing alternative health is presumably safer, especially when complied with properly. One of the extensively used alternative therapy is natural supplementation in which we can ascertain that alternative health techniques are non toxic and not harmful.

Alternative methods of treatment do not entail the ingestion of hazardous or potentially poisonous substances found in conventional medications. When making alternative methods a recourse, however, one must be on the lookout for allergic reactions, especially when applying aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is essentially anodyne but a potential problem could be hypersensitivity to the essential oils used in this alternative health practice. Another advantage of alternative methods of treatment is that they are non-invasive. A patient may acquire slight pin pricks in the alternative method of acupuncture, but it is definitely less dreadful having your body being cut and sliced open and your internals being tampered with in surgery.

Many problems and complications can also possibly arise after undergoing surgery. Once you have resorted to alternative health methods, surgery may probably be eliminated from your list of options as a recourse for treatment. However, as with any form of treatment, be wary of obtaining alternative health treatment from an unskilled practitioner as this would surely lead to dangerous waters. This goes without saying in any form of medical practice or when acquiring services, one must carefully choose the merchant, so to speak. In the alternative health practice of acupuncture, infection can possibly result from improperly sterilized needles. Or allergic reactions can arise if an unskilled practitioner uses the wrong oils for aromatherapy.

An incompetent chiropractic doctor can “crack” your bones in the wrong way and can do more harm than good. As in all instances, entrust yourself to a credible, skilled and well-experienced alternative health practitioner. Same goes when resorting to the expertise of a conventional medicine professional as well. Awareness is also essential for alternative health practices to be effective. Be sure that you are properly implementing the alternative practices recommended by your alternative health practitioner. Blind adherence in any case can be detrimental. It is advisable, however, to complement alternative health techniques with conventional methods of medications and therapy. Ensure yourself with a well-rounded, holistic treatment with a combination of both alternative and conventional measures.

Always take into consideration, however, that the alternative health therapy and the conventional treatment that you are utilizing do not contradict or conflict with each other. The key word is that they COMPLEMENT each other, that is, both methods work together to provide you with a longer life of healthy living and well being.
